Walking the Talk Matters. Organisations who advertise their values and who then go ahead and do "whatever they please" ignoring their published values, will never be successful in the long run. So how do you go about ensuring people within your organisation "walk the talk" in respect of their values?
Click here to download a simple template for use in Performance Reviews/Personal Development. You will find the use of this template will make a huge difference in conscientizing people in your organisation to its values and how your people are living them in practice.
The steps in using this template are quite simple--though they will require a lot of in-depth thought:
At the top right, enter your organisation's values.
In the left hand column, have the person you are working with list behaviours they have experienced which they believe are examples of "not walking the talk".
Click here to download our Key Values Sheet. Use it to work with the person to identify the values expressed in the behaviours described in Step 1.
Using the same Key Sheet, identify the values which you believe 'should' have been "operationalised" by the people who exhibited the behaviours listed.
In the right-hand column, list alternative behaviours for each behaviour listed in the left-hand column. These new behaviours whould be ones you both agree operationalise your organisation's values.
When people in your organisation are not living its values, it can significantly impact on the mental health of others in your organisation. the consequences can be very serious. Click here to down load a very insightful article from beyondblue about the importance of addressing mental health in your workplace.
[Before working with each person, you may find it useful to have them complete this very-short survey: http://www.minessence.net/Surveys/VAWSurvey.aspx.]
